Open-ended rolls (or, exploding dice) make for a type of game where sometimes, just occasionally, something crazy happens out of nowhere. Every roll have a chance to succeed, and that’s exciting – but that also means the simplest mook might be able to knock you down with a single shot (it’s not very likely, but it’s possible) – and that’s exciting too.

Games that feature exploding dice aren’t universally welcomed by all, nor should they be – people have different tastes, and good for them – but for a system like Savage Worlds, open-ended rolls are the perfect tool.
