The Joker Nadav is holding is from our deck, so it features Natasha, and no we won’t get into the topic of how that’s possible.

My game’s launching tomorrow!

Project

Caregiver is a single player storytelling games in which you are a magical healing spirit who cares for the heroes. The world is magical and mysterious, and you are one of those mysteries. You have no form or age, just a desire: to see humans flourish. You try to keep the adventurers safe and provide for them, being as good and useful as you can, but you’re barely a whisper, so it’s difficult.

Inspired by games like Eye of the Beholder, Legend of Grimrock, and too many JRPGs to count, you supervise the whole group at once, from above. However, while most fantasy games focus on giving orders during the fight, in Caregiver the heroes are outside of your control. Instead, you try to prevent harm, caring for each hero’s physical and mental health.

Here’s an example of an event (there are 52) and the beginning of a monster description (there are 12, each with 10 entries):

Ancient Vault

The heroes come upon an ancient vault. What feature of the architecture is obviously ominous?

The Sneak decides to enter in search of secrets and treasure. Several long minutes pass, and they haven’t returned.

The group considers entering in search of the missing Sneak, but you know it’s too dangerous for them inside. You can guide them by spending dice.

Roll a d6 + any dice spent and choose the highest result. If the Sneak’s specialty can help add +1, unless they’re aggravated.
1-2 A hero goes after the Sneak and stumbles into a trap. They get Bones and an issue (broken arm; too tense; need to prove myself to the Sneak)
3-4 The Sneak stumbles into a trap and gets either Muscles or an issue (fearful of the Ancients; lost my gear; imposter syndrome; the others are always in the way)
5-6 The Sneak bypasses a deadly trap and finds an old piece of gear or a useful secret, which allows one hero to overcome an issue.

If there is no Sneak in the group, no one dares try the vault and they continue on.

Annoying Little Buggers

The heroes encounter many short, annoying gremlin-like creatures. How many are there? (six; a dozen; fifty plus; they’re all fingers of the same creature)

They are vaguely humanoid, both in appearance and behaviour, but they’re missing something crucial. What are they missing? (common sense; heads; a sense of decorum)

They have just enough intelligence to be malicious, and work together to make everyone else’s life so much harder. What is sharp or inappropriate about their looks?

Vanquish die: d8

Quick: Treat all of their cards as red, they always act first.

1. They run and scratch and slice, harming two random heroes and dealing Blood. What are they slicing with? (teeth; knives; spikes on their hind legs; they make glass shards erupt from the ground)

It’s £7 for a PDF or £12 for the booklet, about 30+ pages.
