After everything that happened – what is Syn, now? They’re not clear about it themselves.

It was an organization dedicated to a secret cause that is no longer required. Now it’s a group of people who have stone hearts in a world where everyone else is fully flesh, and whose leadership aren’t sure what, exactly, is their point anymore.

But killing an organisation is hard – in Sociology of Organisation course at uni I learned that whatever an org’s original goal is, it soon becomes secondary to “survival”. Even if there’s no point to it anymore, the people in the organisation would do anything to keep it alive, usually by finding a new goal.

So what is the point of Syn now? Maybe it’s what it always claimed to be – subduing dangerous Crystals. But as the only truly international organisation in the Five Lands, can they be more? I’m literally asking, see, they no longer have a flying castle, it was really important for their round-the-Lands logistics, so, can they?

While they’re trying to figure this out, we see Phillis has either given up on her clerical position or was cast away – maybe both, probably after receiving the heretic title of Moonkiller or something like that, which she might take with pride. Or maybe she is utterly shamed by it. She’s probably still figuring this out herself.

So what is Syn, now? This remains to be syn. Thank you I’ll be here until the end – which is only a few more pages away.

“Legend in the Mist” Kickstarter past 1/2 Million Dollar!

Legend in the Mist is Son of Oak’s new “rustic fantasy” game. I’m the editor, so obviously I’m excited the Kickstarter is doing very well, with close to 5K backers and past half a million dollar. Back it here! There’s a full demo kit and everything.

This Wednesday noon (GMT) I’ll do a 2-hour stream during which I’ll convert my lovely dungeon adventure One Last Tribute from its D&D 5e version to Legend, in mechanics, pacing and feel. There will be a VOD afterward of course, if you’re interested.
